THE ANNUAL FUND
Stuart Hall School’s Annual Fund is the School's most important source of revenue other than student tuition. It is a vital part of each year's operating budget, enabling Stuart Hall School to enhance programs and facilities, attract top-notch teachers, and provide scholarships, while helping to keep tuition affordable.
Annual Fund gifts allow us to keep our classes small, bringing out the best in each student: mind, body, heart, and spirit. The Annual Fund, which receives money from July 1-June 30 each year, is what makes up the difference between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student. Tuition pays for about 80 percent of the actual cost, leaving a gap that must be covered by unrestricted charitable contributions.
Without the Annual Fund, the School would need to reduce every budget line to cover expenses. Participation in the Annual Fund is doubly important when we approach charitable foundations for additional funding. One important question they ask is, "What percent of your alumnae/i, parents, and trustees give to the Annual Fund?"
Annual Fund Frequently Asked Questions
Why not just raise tuition?
Tuition covers only a portion of the total cost (roughly 80%) of educating a student. If independent schools relied solely on tuition income, they would price themselves well beyond the means of most families. In addition, gifts to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible and tuition is not.
How much should I give?
While contributions of $500.00 or more represent the critical mass of gifts to the Annual Fund, gifts of every size are gratefully appreciated and very important. Only you can determine the amount that's right for you, but please give as generously as you are able. An investment in Stuart Hall School is one that will pay life-time dividends for our children.
